As you probably know, I am so proud of all of our students! And I know that myself, Mez and Joanna have enjoyed sharing the wonderful gift of music each week with all our students. I'm so looking forward to hearing and seeing all our wonderful students showcasing what they have learnt this year.
The concert is such a great opportunity for students to gain experience in playing in front of others and to experience the joy of playing for friends and family. Music is truly a gift and it is a special thing when one can share that gift with others.
With our school growing significantly this year we are hosting 2 concerts this year. One at 2:30pm and the other at 4pm. We thought that would be better than sitting still for 3 hours :)
Well Term 3 is upon us and it is so exciting that we are finally fully rolling out our Rock Band program!
Rock Band Program
Our Rock Band program is unique in that it teaches scales, theory, aural, musicality and great songs all in a band environment. Making music together is fun, motivating and develops musicality in a way that one on one tuition cannot provide. Our Rock Band program comes with access to our online tuition which means students get the best of both worlds. $26 gives access to our online program and weekly Rock Band classes.
We also have Joanna starting with us this term. She is an amazing singing and Joanna will be teaching singing and flute at our Swansea studio.
Spots are limited for lessons with Joanna, so it's best to get in quick!
Fees for term 3 are $23 for 20 min private lesson, $35 for 30 mins, $20 for shared class 30 mins and $26 for our Rock Band program and $65 for an hour. Families with 2 half hour time slots will be charged just the hourly rate of $65.
So looking forward to making music with you all this term!
Hope you're having a great week. It's hard to believe but indeed it is week nine already. The term is almost over.
This week, is Duets week! I'm so excited and looking forward to hearing the beautiful music that the students will be playing together. Don't forget (if you are doing duets) to come to your partners lessons as well as your own. We are also booking in AMEB exams this week.
I'm not sure if I've mentioned this already but this year we are having the 40 piece challenge. The challenge is to be able to learn 40 new pieces throughout the year. Those that manage to do that will get a trophy and best of all, will know that they completed it and will of course improved greatly as a musician. If students manage to learn 20 or 30 pieces there will be a certificate of accomplishment for that.
Just a quick note on practice. You don't need to practice lots to get better quickly, but you do need to practice regularly and be focused. Knowing what to practice and how to practice are just as important, if not more important, than how long you practice. So make sure you know what to practice. Check out the teacher notes and stay focused throughout your practice. Don't play for too long and not be focused. And practice regularly. 15 mins 5 times a week is better than one 2 hour practice session.
It's hard to believe (for me at least) but there are only 2 more sleeps until our concert!
I know that everyone has been practicing very hard over the last little bit of time and I'm so looking forward to seeing everyone perform on Sunday. You guys are awesome!!!!
I'm putting the finishing touches to the program today and everyone has been allocated either concert 1 or concert 2. If you are not sure which concert you/your child is in please let me know and I'll fix that for you.
The first concert starts at 2:30pm and the second one at 4:30pm (not 4pm like I accidentally said in a previous email). If you can get there 15-30 mins earlier that would be great so everyone is seated and settled before we start and you can ask any last minute questions from your teacher etc.
As you might know, we have some great plans for the studio this year, with various themed concerts, more bands, student recording sessions, the 40 piece challenge and lots more, but I thought I would just draw your attention to some things happening in the near future.
For those wanting to do a grade this year the cut off date for the first lot of exams is in just a few weeks (the exam is much later). So let me know if that is something you would like to do, if we haven't spoken about it already. I will also need the full payment for the exam before I do the enrolments too. I have to give AMEB (the exam board) the full amount when I register all the students. I'll let you know how much that is, if that is relevant to you.
Secondly, we have our Duets Week coming up in week 9. For those interested in participating the idea is that students will learn a couple of duet pieces in the lead up to week 9 and then that week, you share 2 lessons with a similar level student. So you go to another students lesson, but they also come to yours and you play those pieces together. There's no extra cost and I'm sure it will be lots of fun and a great learning experience.
Let me know if you are keen and I will start thinking about who I can pair you up with.
